Agriculture

🌱 Immense agricultural potential, but underutilized

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has approximately 80 million hectares of arable land and 4 million hectares of irrigable land, of which barely 1% is currently cultivated. Yet, small-scale farming employs nearly 70% of the active population. This paradox illustrates a troubling reality: fertile land exists alongside extreme poverty, particularly in rural areas, where hunger remains a daily threat.

🌾 EBaM: sowing hope, reaping dignity

Faced with this situation, EBaM (Together for the Well-being and Autonomy of the Masses) has made it its mission to promote sustainable and inclusive agriculture, by equipping the most vulnerable rural communities so that they can achieve food self-sufficiency.

In practical terms, EBaM provides support and training to widows and orphans in the cultivation of essential crops such as maize, elaeis (oil palm), and various local grains. These beneficiaries also receive essential material and technical resources, funded entirely by EBaM, to enable them to rebuild their lives with dignity.

🕊️ A response to human tragedy

EBaM has chosen to focus its efforts on the victims of the massacres perpetrated by Kamuina Nsapu militias in 2017 in Kasai. These widows and orphans, often left to fend for themselves, live in profound distress, without resources or prospects.

However, the needs extend far beyond this targeted group. Other communities, equally vulnerable due to conflict, exclusion, or precarious living conditions, deserve urgent attention. Unfortunately, EBaM's resources remain limited, hindering the scope of its work.

🤝 Call for solidarity

This is why EBaM is calling on national and international partners, institutions, NGOs, patrons and engaged citizens to unite in this noble task: that of restoring hope, autonomy and dignity to those whom life has broken.
